When the office learns that Dunder Mifflin may go bankrupt, Michael devises a plan to keep things upbeat around the office.

The office receives an e-mail from David Wallace stating that the article in the Wall Street Journal about Dunder Mifflin most likely declaring bankruptcy is just a rumor and not fact. However, the entire office is worried about the possibility of losing their jobs.

The Office Plays Belles, Bourbon and Bullets

So being the unconventional manager that Michael is, he decides to play a party game to get everyone to stop thinking about the possibility of losing their jobs. The game is called “Belles, Bourbon and Bullets: A Murder Mystery Dinner Party Game.” Everyone takes on an identity and tries to figure out who the murderer is.

Jim is of course very opposed to this, but everyone in the office seems to be on board. While it’s funny enough to see the entire cast pretending to be characters in the 1950s, the best scenes are when Jim or Oscar try and talk about the state of the company and Michael stays in character.

Jim has to eventually pull Michael off to the side and explain to him the seriousness of the company’s future, but Michael believes that playing the game is the best thing for all of the employees right now.

At the end of the episode, Wallace explains to Jim that the company will run out of money by the end of the year. Jim wants to tell the rest of the office the bad news, but instead tells everyone there has been another “murder” and gets the office together for another dinner party game.

This is an interesting development. Dunder Mifflin will run out of money, but it seems unlikely that the show will be cancelled. The writers will no doubt find a way for Dunder Mifflin to get back on its feet. The Office would not be the same if everybody lost their jobs, or even if everyone worked somewhere else.

Andy Finally Asks Erin Out

With all of the talk about people losing their jobs, Andy decides it is time to ask Erin out. However, since both of them are in character all day, Andy worries if Erin actually took his date proposal seriously. Andy confronts Erin again and Erin says she didn’t know Andy was talking about a real date. Andy covers up by saying he wasn’t talking about a real date.

However, Erin tells the audience that she got excited when she thought it was a real date. So now we know that both Erin and Andy like each other. However, because of the characters they were playing, their signals got crossed and now both of them think the other didn’t want to go on a real date.

The writers did go back to the Andy and Erin relationship after skipping an episode. We learned they both like each other, but at the same time there was no more progression. However, knowing Andy, it seems unlikely that he will give up so easily. He did not give up so easily with Angela, and he will most likely not give up so easily with Erin.

Murder was one of the better episodes of the new season. The awkwardness between Andy and Erin was entertaining, and Michael’s dedication to his character provided a ton of laughs.
